My Students
I am a special education (learning support) teacher in a small school district just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Specifically, I provide reading and math support to students, as well as providing behavioral, social/emotional, and adaptive skill support.
My roster includes an extremely diverse group of students in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade.
Despite the challenges they often face in the school environment, my students are incredibly hard workers. They put so much effort into their learning and love to see the progress they have made!
My Project
I’ve found that many of my students learn best when they utilize items that help them improve their focus, including access to flexible seating options. While a regular chair is appropriate for some students, others may need something very different! Students may need to stand, bounce, spin, or rock to keep themselves focused and engaged in learning tasks.
Every student is different, so what one student needs may not be what another student needs.
This is why I have selected three different types of seating options to include in my project - standing desks, ball chairs, and stability balls. Combined with the wobble stools that I currently have in my classroom, these flexible seating options will accommodate many students' needs!
