This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an energetic group of youngsters comprised of individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds. They enjoy robust lessons that challenge, motivate and excite them.

As scholars in an International Baccalaureate school, my students are learning to be global-minded citizens.

They are interested in understanding how the world works and are making connections between their choices and the impact they have on our planet.

My Project

Fifth grade students read informational text daily, and studies show taking notes while reading increases memory retention and overall learning outcomes. My students are currently studying the Earth's systems. They are using library books, articles, and online resources to collect information about the hydrosphere, atmosphere, geosphere, and biosphere. As students come across key information during their research, they are learning how to sort through the content, identify pertinent details, and organize the information in their inquiry journal.

Having the Boogie Board Blackboard will allow me to model proper note-taking methods.

Modeling specific ways to take notes will help students see what outcomes could/should look like. They will use their new markers to take notes in their own notebooks. The goal is for my students to engage with text in a more meaningful way. I am hoping that by learning how to take notes properly, my students will go from being passive readers to active participants in their own learning.
