My students are an energetic and enthusiastic group of learners. They are second graders in an elementary school located in a major metropolitan area of Washington state. They come from diverse backgrounds both culturally and socioeconomically, though our school does have a high level of students who qualify for either free or reduced-priced lunch. Despite the challenges that many of them may face, my students come to school each day eager to learn and embrace the challenges of the day.
My Project
My classroom currently has three older desktop computers and access to laptop carts that are shared school-wide. I am requesting these iPads and protective cases to give my students wider access to educational technology on a daily basis. Students will be able to work on apps that support the development of their reading and math skills at differentiated levels to help individualize their skill development. For instance, some students will be able to work on the phonics skills they need to practice while others will be able to work on comprehension and vocabulary skill development. The headphones will make it easier for the students to use the iPads to their fullest.
