Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school. I work mostly with students who come from low-socio economic backgrounds. Many of them, want to get a job and help their family stay afloat and at times put school as their last option.
This year, I started a program that I have had envisioned for many years.
That was to create a classroom library. I wanted to provide my students access to books written in Spanish with authors that have similar last names to theirs. Throughout the year we read a few books together and they worked in groups and chose their own books to read. One of the books we read was Cajas de Carton, the students enjoyed reading this story. Is for this reason that I would love to have a whole class set. After reading these books, I noticed an improvement in their writing and their speaking. This leads me here.
Join me in my quest to expand my classroom library and provide my students with more options to choose from next year. I am so eager to continue to give students options and give them the opportunity to grow and dream through these stories. I would love to continue to enrich their vocabulary and increase their knowledge.
