This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach over 525 elementary students each week in P.E. More than 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch at our Title I school in the heart of Utah. The majority of our school time and funds are dedicated to academics.
However, when it's time for PE, our kids are ready to let loose and play all kinds of engaging activities.
Unlike computer games, P.E. is live action with hands-on experience as students' hearts, hands and feet race to catch, throw, kick, trap and dribble.
My Project
Paddle skills improve hand-eye coordination, timing, sequencing, motor planning and attention. Add a balloon and a net, and you’ve got an exciting P.E. game where students use a paddle to volley a balloon back and forth across a net.

It is an awesome energy-intensive game that requires quick foot and hand action on the part of each player. Students learn to compete with peers, learn to win and learn to gracefully lose. Players will evaluate their skills then draw conclusions to improve their game and become successful players. It pays to pay attention. Each player will have to track the balloon and its path of motion for the length of the game improving their ability to concentrate.
This is a non-contact sport. There is no direct interaction between players, reducing the risk of serious injuries.
We’ve got paddles. We've got the balloons. Now, all my students need are the nets. Your generous donation of nets will be used by over 500 students for many years.
