I work with students, who have a variety of special needs, in a learning support classroom. My students truly appreciate the little things in life (stickers, a high five, helping at the board, and feeling included). They love working as a team to meet learning goals.
Many of my students skip to my reading table, because they are excited about how successful they feel in my room.
It is awesome to be able to provide an atmosphere where they feel successful academically, because all activities are on their instructional level. I have high expectations for my students, and I hope that they also become intrinsically motivated to become life long learners.
My Project
My students are young and are expected to remain on-task for small group lessons at our classroom table. Sitting still is so hard for these young kiddos! I often teach in different spots around the classroom to increase student engagement. My students struggle with academics and remaining on task. They receive specially designed small group instruction to help them succeed with grade level expectations.
Having the ability to move, while sitting, has been proven effective to increase student attentiveness.
I would love to be able to provide flexible wobble seats for my students, but they are very expensive! I believe the seats will help increase focus and the rate of learning in my classroom. The kiddos will also think their new seats are pretty awesome!
I also included a few busy bands for desks in my wish list. These bands can be utilized on student desks to allow them to move and stretch their legs, while working.
