Incorporating Technology with Reading

My students need access to independent technology, an iPad and 2 CD players, for use in literacy block.

My Students

Students learn best by doing, and hands on learning. Daily access to technology will help create a well-rounded student and prepare them for college and career.

My students are eager learners, and come to school ready to learn and to improve their reading and comprehension skills.

We would like to integrate technology primarily in our literature block, however, the access to this technology can be used in all subject areas. As an inclusion classroom, we include general education, special education, and English language learners.

My Project

The third grade classes are only guaranteed 30 minutes of technology a week. This time slot is used in a computer lab, and is typically teacher directed. With the access to iPads, and CD players, we are increasing their independent access to technology to 60-90 minutes a week. iPads can be used to listen to stories, and to increase reading fluency, writing skills, and enhance vocabulary. CD players, will also increase access to listening to reading. Both tools will increase engagement in reading, and encourage life long readers.

Your contribution will change our classroom dynamics, community, and reach students who do not have access to technology at home or in their past education.

Incorporating classroom technology is hugely important to increasing our students interest in school, and to teach them skills for their future. Technology engages all learners, and gives equal access to all students.
