This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Please help me provide technology for my students in my speech therapy room. My students have special needs and use of pictures and symbols often allow for them to share their knowledge and ideas. iPad and education applications available offer predictability, presence of carrier phrases, and frequent practice of target sounds and speech movements for my students. My students have shown progression with the use of applications such as Boom Cards which offer a variety of activities related to common concepts and stories which will be more beneficial to them on a portable device like an iPad.
A photo printer will allow me to print sequencing images for my students which is a concept they often struggle with.
It will also allow us to keep photos on our “Spotlight” wall in the therapy room. My students love to take pictures on trips and during school events. It allows them to recall details and increase conversation about important events.
Some of my students are even non-verbal and very dependent on the use of visuals to enhance following directions, requesting, and making comments. A laminator will allow me to preserve visuals and materials I make for my speech students. Students will benefit from materials that are made to last!
