My name is Jessica Maurer, and I am currently a 1st Grade teacher in Webster, SD. I am just newly into my career and am always looking for way to help promote student organization, independence, and success. One thing I have noticed as a first-grade teacher is how much my students are lacking basic organization and independence skills.
I have seen how this has directly affected their work.
I have put some filing/organization components into my project in order to try to make organization and responsibility become a main point in my classroom. I plan to use these to help students keep their homework, writing packets, reading packets, notebooks, and corrections organized and easy to keep track of. I also added some STEM bin activities and bins to help promote student engagement and enhancing applying real life skills into the classroom.
My goal in this project is to help students not only academically but also build key life skills that will help them to succeed in each grade that comes. By giving them resources to build these skills, such as responsibility, organization, independence, communication, teamwork, and many other real-life applicable skills I feel that the students will be gaining a stronger more well-rounded education!
My students are so special to me and teaching in a small town really gives you the ability to focus on the areas of growth that your individualized students need and that is exactly what I am doing by creating this project.
