This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Providing structure and a clean, safe place to grow our brains is a HUGE part of our classroom culture.
I'm moving from Special Education to First Grade general education because our rising kinder kids are a very high at-risk population and they are really going to need the support that a teacher with Special Education experience can provide.
My students are AWESOME kids--I've had the pleasure of working with a few of them in kinder this year. They are warm, giggly, and so yearning to grow their brains. I can't wait to keep working with them! But, they are going to need intensive structure and support to get there. This carpet can help provide us with important classroom routines that will make learning possible!
My Project
I'm currently teaching Special Education at a charter school in Texas. This next year, I'll be teaching First Grade. In Special Ed, I don't have a classroom of my own or a whole lot of furniture. I want to be able to give my kids intensive structure and routine that will make learning and expanding knowledge possible. This carpet will provide a "home-base" that will serve as the basis of our daily lessons and procedures.
I want very much for my students to be excited for their team meetings and group gatherings all together, and this carpet will definitely make them excited to sit in their spot and participate in the active learning I strive for in my classroom.
