This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students spend most of their time in my self-contained classroom. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
My students work hard and I know they will do even better if they can have an environment where they all feel safe and have the supplies they need for success.
In my class, most of the students have experienced trauma. The resources request will help students and me as we create a trauma-sensitive environment. The resources will help the students see themselves in the curriculum and feel safe in the classroom to create an inclusive environment.
My Project
The students in my classroom face many challenges. They are in a self-contained Unit and suffer from low self-esteem and many students need a trauma-sensitive approach. I want the students in my class to thrive and to know their worth. I want them to feel safe, cared for, and understand that the differences are what make us great and the past events do not define our future. The students will read the books and I will use the strategies to implement new practices that keep their unique needs in mind. I also think it's important that even though I am in a class full of male students that we talk about the great women in history.
