Inclusive Music Makers: Accessible Instruments for All
Please help me by giving my students a class set of Nuvo (button) recorders and drumsticks so that all students can play in the ensembles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Nothing brings our students together more effortlessly than Music. Though my Special Education students and students with various physical disabilities are always included in my music classroom, they face more challenges from school sites when we begin instrument instruction.
Research repeatedly shows that ALL students benefit from early musical experiences.
That is why, with your help, I am inspired to begin teaching with more adaptive and accessible instruments!
With buttons rather than sound holes, the Nuvo Recorders allow students with limited fine motor skills or limited use of their appendages to make smooth and clear tones, access and change notes more easily, and participate with their peers more easily. The movable thumb rest is an additional adaptation for smaller hands as well.
Drumsticks will go towards creating a percussion section in the strings and band classes. All students in the percussion section will be able to isolate and focus on rhythms with a more accessible skill set while contributing to expanding the ensemble's sound to reflect complete ensembles in the Intermediate schools.
