My Project
As a first year third grade teacher, I am building a classroom library that reflects my students' identities. My goal is for my classroom library to be a collection of inclusive, empowering, and student-focused books.
My goal for this project is to provide students with access to inclusive books and tie them into Reading, Writing, Social Studies, and Social-Emotional Lessons.
Some titles include: Adelita; I am Enough; Rosie Revere, Engineer; and The Name Jar. These books highlight children of Color, identity, and empathy. Titles such as Black Inventors: 15 inventors that changed the world; Mae Among the Stars highlight powerful people in history.
The listed books will be used to meet the Common Core Standards: RL.3.1, RL.3.2, RL.3.3, RL.3.5, SL.3.1, and SL.3.4. Students will be able to answer questions to demonstrate understanding of the text, determine the central message or lesson, the main idea and key details, and describe characters in a story.
