My Students

Our Norfolk, Virginia PreK students are amazing and resilient! We are located in a dedicated military town. All students have risk factors that qualify them for our program. I see the sparkle in their eyes when they log in to the computer. Distance teaching is challenging, but with hands-on materials, we can help them thrive!

My Project

We are working to create a better classroom library. In our search, we are looking for diverse and inclusive books that support students in social-emotional skills.

Children need to see themselves and others in the books we read.

Books with diverse characters allow students to feel included. Grace Lin is quoted in a Ted Talk saying that books are "windows and mirrors for children." I agree that books can reflect children's lives and they deserve to see their life in the books we read to our students.

We love reading and need to find more books that children will love and feel supported in every read-aloud.
