There are 10 lovable, energetic, and unique Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders in my class who are all diagnosed with autism or other developmental disabilities. Among these 10 students, 6 different languages and countries are represented. Each student receives a free breakfast and lunch at school and instruction is adapted differently to meet each student's needs.
The students have so many unique qualities that makes each of them special, creates their own strengths, and allows them to progress at their perfect pace.
Our curriculum centers around providing instruction in academic and functional skills using math, literacy, social studies, science, social skills, special area classes, therapy dogs, speech and occupational therapy, Special Olympics, and community trips. Our goal is for each of our students to make progress in independence and communication while living a happy and health life.
My Project
The curriculum we use involves a lot of hands-on activities and technology integrated into each subject. By giving my students the opportunity to use hands-on activities and technology adapted to his/her learning style, they make steady progress. Due to the limited amount of resources available at my school, funds for color printer ink are not available. My students learn best with visuals, specifically colorful visuals. The printer ink will allow my students to complete activities on the computer and print them with correct colors, as well as allow me to print colorful visuals and adapted materials to aid in lessons.
The opportunities students will be given from the use of the easel and ink will maximize the potential for learning of each student.
The ink can ensure that all instruction in Science, Social Studies, Literacy, Math, and Social, Life, and Vocational Skills is individualized for each students needs.
