This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom store opens every Friday. Over the week, students collect tokens earned for different reasons: determination, perseverance, kindness, effort, and courage. On store days, students are eager to buy their prizes. These incentives bring joy and hope to their lives.

Most of my students had to endure traumatic experiences before starting school.

These students started school with a lack of exposure to print, language, and fun experiences that every child should have. They are children from low-income households from minority groups in an underfunded school.

My students need incentives, including yummy treats, sensory items, and fun classroom supplies, to persevere in their learning and catch up on grade level. These children need patience, care, and determination to meet their full potential.

It is not easy to learn grade-level content when you are two years below; positive reinforcements can help students stay on track and keep believing in themselves. Small steps can lead to a full journey.
