This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
One favorite quote of mine comes from the school that I teach at: "Learning to be a good person — in or out of school — is as important as learning to be a good student." This quote relates to my project because the incentives will be provided to students for their character, positive behavior, and work ethic.
I work with an incredible group of high-risk students from Flint, Michigan and the surrounding areas.
They are smart, helpful, fun, and caring middle schoolers who face many challenges in their lives. My school is in a high-poverty area which focuses on character and academic excellence.
My Project
The project will help my students improve their behaviors and participation in the classroom, which will lead to more academically successful students. The incentives will be used to motivate students and reward appropriate behaviors that support the school-wide behavioral expectations. My students will receive tickets for their character, positive behavior, good grades, and participation. At the end of the week, they will be able to exchange their tickets for a prize, such as stickers, a pencil, eraser, wristband, or bookmark that I know they will treasure and be proud of. My students are more than capable of accomplishing anything they set their minds to and the incentives will give them something to work towards.
