My students need an iPad Pro to work on increasing math fluency in our stations through apps that align with our curriculum. Students need headphones to help concentration for individualized computer work and art supplies for projects!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from the inner city and our school is like a second home for them. For many, school is a safe haven from the issues they encounter at home or in their neighborhoods. Unfortunately, this also means that sometimes they are not entitled to the same resources and students who are in other school communities. My school is very enthusiastic about providing a safe, loving community to students in order to foster a positive place for learning to happen.
My Project
The materials requested will help create a rich learning environment. Students learn in so many different ways that the "old fashioned" craft materials are still necessary to help create concrete products that demonstrate their learning. However, in order to navigate different learning challenges, new technologies help tremendously in unfolding the abstract thinking that is also necessary in this level of mathematic studies.
Our classroom utilizes blended learning– some Digital student-led components with online platforms like Google classroom and some traditional teacher-led methods that still tap into hands-on learning.
The iPad Pro will be a great incentive for having students earn iPad time to practice remedial skills through apps and games that align with our instructional outcomes. Since our online lessons are individualized and self-paced, the headphones are crucial in helping students remain focused on their own work rather than being distracted by what others are listening to and working on.
The art supplies are to help enrich the learning experience through creating print products and completing projects that showcase their learning from what they have gained online. The students are enjoying the blended learning experience and these resources will help refine the process even more and further enrich the learning experience!
