This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my class qualifies for free lunch. My students are diverse learners that all need something different from school. Students in my class are given access to flexible seating, a classroom library, and a Makerspace every day in order to better their learning.
Our classroom is full of diverse, excited learners who need a wide range of resources to learn.
My goal is to create a caring classroom community where my students feel valued and a sense of belonging. My students teach me just as much as I teach them.
My Project
Class sets of "In the Year of the Boar of Jackie Robinson" and "Esperanza Rising" will benefit my students immensely by giving them the chance to read diverse novels. I read "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson" when I was in fifth grade and it was extremely engaging for my class and me.
These class sets will expose my students to a diverse range of characters.
By reading these novels, my students will see characters that are similar to themselves. They will also see characters that reflect people they know. By reading about diverse characters that reflect real people, they can develop empathy.
