In the World; Ready to Read!

Help me give my students a whiteboard, comprehension workbooks, and leveled reading books! I want to send these kids, some ELL, out into the world with the ability to read and write their way to success!

My Project

High school is often the last stop for learning to read before students leave to survive in society. My students are striving readers in grades 9-12. Many of them are still reading at the Kindergarten level. A number of students are English Language Learners who arrived in the country after foundational reading instruction is part of the daily academic routine. They are now in high school, in my reading intervention class, to try to "catch up" to their peers in all aspects of literacy: reading, writing, speaking and listening. I also teach students at all levels of literacy, and I am lacking the resources to create instruction to accurately target each student's individual needs. Many of my students need to practice rudimentary skills such as handwriting, phonics, and sight word recognition. This is the goal of obtaining comprehension books and leveled reading books. The whiteboard would be appreciated during the first instruction so as to consolidate information and share it seamlessly with the entire class at once.
