My students need Scholastic News to expand their knowledge of non-fiction and current events, to enrich science learning, and to provide at home reading experiences.
I teach in a high poverty elementary school in Maine. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, speak many languages, and have a variety of needs. However, they all have one thing in common. They love to learn.
We are a family in first grade.
I have a room full of readers, writers, and mathematicians. They are very funny, energetic, and busy tiny people. There imagination and ambition to learn is remarkable. Each and every day in first grade brings more learning, more questions, and most importantly more laughter!
My Project
Were you ever jealous as a kid watching parents, grandparents, etc. reading the news? Scholastic News to the rescue! This will provides learning opportunities in and out of the classroom. With this subscription, students will learn about current events, expand their knowledge of non-fiction, interact with the newsletter online, and be able to bring home reading material to share with families. In school, students may read through with the teacher, or using the online resource which provides interactive videos, read-alongs, and games. Students will also be able to keep this in their personal book bins, and the classroom will also receive a copy for ongoing use.
Students will be learning all about the world around them, and be bringing new and exciting news to their families!
At home this will provide students with reading materials that they may begin just looking at the pictures and photographs, but eventually will be able to bring home and read to their families.
Students need to be exposed to various options of print which in turn will result in a diverse reader!
