I teach Computer Science (CS) and Technology in Queens, New York. Our school is a special place with a rich composition of children from diverse backgrounds, particularly serving a large population of English Language Learners and students with disabilities. Many of our students come from families that face financial hardships that limit accessibility to technology. We are actively working to close the Digital Divide through CS instruction and work with donors will help ensure equitable access to technology tools for all of our students.
All children should be exposed to meaningful STEM and Computer Science learning opportunities integrated across all content areas.
My Project
We do not have a carpet in our lab and I would like the students to have a comfortable place to sit during our mini lessons. The carpet I found is really quite unique as it is made to look the layout of a multi-room dwelling. We design these kinds of maps in the lab and it would definitely spark conversation amongst our students.
In addition to providing a comfortable place to sit, this carpet could serve as a place for students to program their robots to visit different rooms within the design's layout.
Having the addition of a wonderful carpet like this one will help to make the lab a more welcoming environment for students.
