I teach middle level students who are learning English as a new language. The majority come from the Philippines and the island nations of Micronesia. They need language support to be successful in their regular classes, as well as navigating their new environment.
I believe that language learners learn best through peer collaboration with hands-on, visual learning opportunities.
I aim to provide students a lot of opportunities to interact with the core content they are learning. I also strongly believe in arts-integration as a powerful tool for learning.
My Project
My school is going back in a few weeks with a blended learning model. This means I will be teaching students both in person and while they are at home online.
I will need to streamline my curriculum and do more digital aspects to make a seamless transition for my students.
In the classroom, I will need an Apple TV to cast my computer screen to our smartboard so my computer can be anywhere in the room, and not plugged directly into the smartboard. This will enable me to be socially distant from in-person students and also responsive to online students. I also need a tablet holder so I can record lessons on my phone to upload for my distance learning students. Having these supplies will enable me to provide a better experience for all students.
