My Project

I am an ESL teacher who has acquired another school. Because the room I have been placed in was not previously a classroom, it is very plain, and there are no decorations. I want to decorate the classroom so that my students feel welcomed, and know that their diversity is respected, admired, and loved in our classroom.

My students' families came to the United States to provide their children with opportunities that aren't available in their home countries.

I want to give my students every opportunity to not just succeed, but to flourish. My students deserve to feel safe and comfortable in my classroom, and, hopefully, to feel joy in it. I want to create an environment that helps to do that, and I want them to see themselves, and their heritage countries visible.

I've also asked for some basic supplies that I know we will need not just in this school, but in my other school. Looking at my students' assessments, the area where they need the most support is the recorded speaking section, and I've asked for the headphones with microphones so that they can practice using them and be comfortable speaking into them when it is time for the test. I would like white boards and markers for my students for an activity we did last year that would be a bit more efficient with these items. I am also planning to do journaling with my students this year, and will need notebooks for them.
