This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school daily with a drive to learn. My students have specific needs or disabilities ranging from visual impairment, specific learning disabilities, autism, and emotional disturbance. Most students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, which is why I need essential materials. They are also at a disadvantage due to their disabilities.
Some of the students in my class are also English learners, and a few are relatively new to the country.
The community consists of mostly Spanish-speaking families and a small percentage of African-American families. My students work hard every day to learn and to grow.
I support my students in a special day mathematics classroom and they are expected to meet grade-level standards with the support and accommodations I provide. In order to have access to the curriculum, my students need various ways to learn: visually, auditorily, kinesthetically, and/or tactically. As an educator, I want to make sure my students have the same opportunities as their peers in regular general education classrooms.
My Project
I usually create visual representations and anchor charts for my students to copy into their math notebooks, but this can often take up a big chunk of our instructional time. Additionally, some of my students have writing difficulties and need more time to down their notes.
Please help provide colored ink for our printer so that we can maximize learning and our instructional time together.
This will allow my students to have access to visual aids and representations that will support them with completing class activities, homework, and assessments. We will be able to spend more time on the content and overall study habits.
