Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am the Intensive Learning Center teacher that services secondary students on the island of O'ahu. Our primary goal is to address the social-emotional aspect of the child, in order to help them develop critical skills that are necessary for lifelong success.
Our classroom is in need of various items that will not only help students to perform to their best ability, but will also help to create a much more inviting climate which is just as essential to foster student belonging and success.
For example, we need to stock up on snacks. Our students come to school often times hungry and not satiated enough to perform at their best, and lack of food can negatively affect their mood and ability to concentrate on their work and be productive. We need healthy snacks and storage bins to contain them, so that out students have enough fuel and nutrition to be able to perform both behaviorally and academically at their best. We would also like to purchase an air fryer, so that students can learn basic cooking skills, teaching them how to be independent in feeding themselves. Other items that we would like to have in our classrooms are bouncy ball chairs, LED lights, and an incense oil diffuser. These are essential to create an inviting and comfortable climate in meeting the sensory needs of our students.
