This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher in a New York Public School. I would like an overhead projector for my classroom and storage pockets with it. Our schools have received big budget cuts and there is no money left to buy any equipment.

I need an overhead projector for my classroom. I have asked if there are any old overhead projectors and was told there are none left and I would need to share with a college. However, on my floor, there is only one working overhead projector and six classrooms. It is a little difficult to schedule a lesson with the projector when there are other teachers wanting it too.

We just received a new reading and writing program for our grade this school year and there are a lot of transparencies with the lessons. When I did borrow one for a lesson, the students loved it! They were fascinated with it and wanted to know when we were going to use the machine again. I try to borrow it at least once a week for our grammar lessons. There is so much more that I could do with it, if I just had one in my room at all times. I could use it in other subjects, during different periods and my students would benefit from it.

By funding this project, you will help my students "see" lessons in a different way. With the different transparencies I have with the programs we use, I can do a lot of the work right along with my students instead of writing it all out on a dry erase board while the students wait. It is more time efficient and for what ever reason, my students are fascinated by the "machine."
