My Students
I have a richly diverse and multicultural class. They come from many ethnic groups, levels of parental education, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Sometimes, it is the child from the most challenging environment that surprises me the most.
My classroom is composed of very creative, inquisitive students.
Something that they all share is a love of learning and a desire to be able to dig deeper and find answers to their questions. They love challenges and problem solving. They are so eager to learn and demonstrate what they are thinking and feeling.
My Project
These two novels are paired texts that teach about the power of kindness and empathy toward others. Now more than ever, students need to develop social skills and the ability to look for the good in others. Through the stories of Auggie, Jack, Summer, Julian, as well as Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin, students can experience their own world and the possibility of other worlds in which good can conquer evil by showing love and kindness.
It is important for elementary school age kids to learn empathy and compassion, because there is always another side to every story, and things aren't always as they seem.
By reading great literature, students can experience humanity and see how they can rise above their problems, help others rise above theirs, and show themselves and others a little kindness.
