My Project
The IMSE Orton-Gillingham Plus (OG+) Curriculum equips educators with essential strategies, tools, and resources to effectively teach foundational literacy skills. Designed for seamless integration across all tiers of Response to Intervention (RTI), OG+ offers explicit guidance on adjusting instructional scaffolds to support intervention, core instruction, and acceleration based on student needs. The curriculum also includes specialized resources for supporting English Learners, ensuring equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction. Many of my students show signs of dyslexia and require a structured, multisensory approach to literacy. Obtaining this certification will provide me with the knowledge and tools needed to deliver targeted, evidence-based instruction that meets their unique learning needs and supports long-term academic success.
Here’s why OG certification matters:
Proven Effectiveness: OG is one of the most researched and validated methods for teaching students with dyslexia. Certification ensures the teacher knows how to apply the method correctly.
Structured Literacy: OG-certified educators are trained in the principles of structured literacy, including phonology, sound-symbol association, syllable instruction, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
Personalized Instruction: The approach is diagnostic and prescriptive, meaning instructors are trained to assess a student’s needs and adjust lessons accordingly—something certification prepares them to do with skill and confidence.
Professional Credibility: Certification demonstrates a high level of commitment and competence. It's a respected credential among schools, parents, and other professionals.
Adherence to Best Practices: Certification ensures fidelity to the OG method, which is multi-sensory, sequential, cumulative, and explicit. Without proper training, these essential elements can be misunderstood or misapplied.
