This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a Reading Teacher working with 4th-6th grade students who are struggling readers, taking this course would directly impact my instruction. I work in a high-needs, low income district. Many of our students are in need of extra reading supports. The IMSE Morphology Plus 30-hour course is a hands-on, interactive, and personalized class that provides a complete understanding of morphology, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension and how to apply it in the classroom. This course will provide me with a better understanding of where to begin instruction with students with dyslexia as well as students in all three tiers of RTI. I will be able to evaluate and teach students in morphology, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

By taking this course I will: 1 - Gain knowledge about the Science of Reading and the History of the English language, 2 - Gain knowledge about students with reading difficulties including dyslexia, 3 - Understand how EL students can use cognates to help learn English, 4 - Administer various types of assessments, and 5 - Implement and create structured literacy lessons on morphology, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

I have completed the Comprehensive Plus training already and it has made a drastic difference in my student's learning. Taking the first course has already changed the way students learn to read, and I want to continue to expand my knowledge to reach as many learners as possible. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to do so!
