Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My 6th grade students love to learn! Unfortunately, 98% of my students come from low-income families and often cannot afford all the wonderful literacy tools outside the classroom.

Because so many of my students come from families struggling financially, they come to school without adequate supplies and books. As a teacher, I try to provide them with everything they need to ensure a successful experience in my classroom. They need to be surrounded with an environment rich in literacy.

Writing has become a very important aspect of the elementary schools across the nation. State mandated tests are putting more emphasis on student writing. The 6+1 Writing Trait Writing Framework is a powerful way to learn and use a common language to refer to characteristics of writing as well as create a common vision of what 'good' writing looks like. Teachers and students can use the 6+1 Trait model to pinpoint areas of strength and weakness as they continue to focus on improved writing. I believe that this model will benefit my students growth in writing by giving them an alternative way to learn writing skills.

As a donor, you will make it possible for me to teach writing in a fun, successful way! My students will be able to take the skills they learn this year and use them across the curriculum and throughout their lives.
