Whenever you are teaching a class, you will present to a very diverse group with different backgrounds and learning styles. It is important to consider who makes up the class and how best you can reach them. Therefore, it is imperative that you afford each student the equal opportunity to learn.
Our school is a college preparatory school committed to developing students as imaginative critical thinkers.
Our curricula builds a foundation of visual knowledge, skills and literacy for creative problem solving, as students are exposed to design and architecture in stand-alone courses as well as having these studies infused into their core academic courses. The learning environment promotes academic achievement through the integration of a student's career interests, along the line of architecture and preservation arts, and aptitude while making connections to that learning to the world in which we live. Our school population total about 420 students, with a 70:30 male to female ratio. My students are of a very diverse nature. They range from 9th graders to 12th graders. Their heritages are comprised mainly of African-Americans, Latin-Americans, Afro-Caribbeans, Caribbean-Americans, a few Asians and Caucasians.
Our mission is to provide our children with a quality education that is geared toward future training in the preservation trades and related professions such as architecture, conservation, engineering, and city planning. Utilizing new generation technology, like e-books, will allow certain at-risk students to blossom and creating student portfolios by scanning, saving and printing their technical drawings are integral in our students' success.
Our programs introduce important architectural concepts and skills while providing students with valuable, marketable and unique skill sets to obtain employment or move on to higher education in historic preservation, architecture, or related fields.
The Nook e-Reader and the all-in-one multifunction printer/scanner/copier will alow my students to be creative and self-sufficient.
