This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, in Safford, Arizona. My students are very willing to work hard and complete engaging projects. Each student in my class is unique and many have a wide range of abilities when it comes to reading.

My students are very creative and love to read, especially if I can pull any type of technology into our curriculum.

They are very interested in becoming more fluent readers. Many of my students do not have the accessibility in their homes to technology. They crave the interactive learning and are very engaged when it comes to my ability to incorporate technology in the classroom.

My Project

I am requesting Ipads in my classroom to improve reading fluency. My 3rd graders are required to take the AZMERIT assessment at the end of the year. They have to pass the reading portion in order to promote to 4th grade. By incorporating Ipads in our classroom we will have the ability to use these to meet our needs.

There are many apps that are available to strengthen the fluency of my students.

My students need to be able to increase their fluency in order to achieve automaticity during reading. Comprehension improves, when they are able to read silently and they will require less time on focusing and figuring out the words.
