I have been so lucky to receive 25 amazing students again this year. My students may not have the most ideal lives outside of school, but it is my goal to give them an ideal education when they are with me. H. S. is a small city with many economic and social struggles. Unfortunately, those struggles often trickle down and affect the students.
But, these students have shown me a real desire to learn.
They come into my room every morning with the true intent to learn, and that makes my heart so happy. It is my job, but more importantly my wish, to give these kids the best, most supportive learning experience I possibly can.
This new school year will bring my students new opportunities! My 3rd grade students will be communicating with a 3rd grade class in China. We will require a device to record Google Hangout videos to upload to YouTube. We currently do not have anything to record ourselves. Also, our classroom tool, ClassDojo, has a new portfolio application where they can share their work whenever they'd like with their families! The new application requires that we have a tool to utilize QR codes. iPads are ideal tools for such.
Many of my students have never been out of Arkansas.
The opportunity to learn about kids their own age, on the other side of the globe will be so beneficial to them. They will be able to ask questions about life in China, and share about life in Arkansas. Getting a better understanding of lives around the world will help my students become more productive members of the global society in the future!
