My class is filled with a group of amazing students in a large, urban community. They are filled with the drive to learn. We work, in our school, to create a legion of leaders. Our students have vast opportunities to take on leadership roles.
They are creative, diverse, inspirational, confident, strategic and collaborative learners.
They are learning to work together, as well as on their own, to be in charge of their learning. To set goals, and then reach them.
My Project
This year I am part of an amazing fellowship. We are learning how to make our teaching more culturally responsive to all students.
I have come to realize I need to read more so I can have a stronger culturally responsive pedagogy.
While I had an amazing education to become a teacher, my pedagogical mentors were all caucasian. I need to read more about teaching in a multiracial classroom from educator and researchers who know what students of color need. I can no longer assume I know. These books will not only support my learning and teaching, but also my colleagues as I share the work (and books) with them.
