I teach music to students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade. I teach in an inner-city school where the majority of my students live in poverty and have had a lot of hardships. Despite their hardships, they enjoy learning and work hard to be successful in school.
Over the 11 years, I have taught at this school, I am constantly amazed by the talent, creativity, and passion my students show for music!
I always have high expectations for my students, and every year they meet or exceed those expectations.
My Project
This past year, my students got to learn, create, and make music portfolios on SeeSaw for the very first time at home. I got to see first hand how great technology can be in the music classroom! My students enjoyed recording themselves singing songs, dancing, and playing rhythms. I could easily create differentiated lessons and assessments and the students wanted to complete the assignments. A few of my students even asked to do more for fun! With this technology, I was able to individually assess my students better than any previous year, because I could go back and easily listen to their recordings or look at their work. Unfortunately, I do not have any way for the students to continue using this great tool in my music classroom.
With the iPad, students will be able to create music portfolios, play interactive music games, learn with differentiated lessons, and so much more!
The iPad has so much to offer in music. Not only can I use it with SeeSaw, but students can play instruments and create their own musical compositions on GarageBand. I will be able to use it for a technology center in music. Using the iPad, I will be able to assess my student's understanding of different musical concepts through interactive games and lessons. Students will also be able to record themselves singing melodies and playing different rhythms. After they record, they will be able to listen to their recording and critique themselves. I am looking forward to including an Ipad in my music classroom, because I know it has endless possibilities to improve music learning for my students!
