My Project
The items that I am requesting will provide my students with essential tools to effectively cope with and manage stress in a variety of situations throughout the school day. My classroom includes a diverse group of students, many of whom have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disabilities (IND). These students already face challenges in developing both mental and social skills, making it crucial for them to have the appropriate support.
In addition to their disabilities, my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and often encounter numerous stressful situations on a daily basis.
They beg for headphones every day to listen to mindfulness music and work on their academic programs without interference from other students. The pillows, sensory objects (lamps, wands, coloring books, and more), and games will allow them to enjoy the calming corner in our room while being able to focus or deescalate from a situation.
The stickers and the snacks are incentives when students are successful with their coping skills. The students were included in writing this project, and most of these items were requested by them. Providing them with these resources will help them navigate their challenges more calmly, effectively, and efficiently while in school as well as within their home environment.
This project aims to facilitate my students' learning process, allowing them to acquire necessary social skills in a way that is both easier and more efficient, all while minimizing additional stress. Mental health is incredibly important in today’s world, and I am reaching out to request your support in creating a more positive and stress-free atmosphere for my students while they are at school. By fostering such an environment, we can enhance their overall learning experience, making it more effective and enjoyable for everyone involved.
