This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For the past 10 years, my classroom has been the first place where many of our school's gifted students have struggled. Developing grit in students and watching them achieve more than they believe possible is one of the most rewarding parts of my job!

Every day, I challenge students to think critically about problems and work hard at understanding algebraic concepts completely.

We build mathematical fluency and capacity through advanced coursework in Pre-AP Algebra II and AP Calculus, and this year for the first time since my first year, I am motivating students in Algebra I to see their potential as well.

I am incredibly lucky to work at a diverse campus where participation and performance in our AP classes match the demographics of our school. We work hard every day to support students taking classes that truly challenge them.

My Project

I am planning to attend both the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching and the AP Annual Conference this summer in Houston, TX. These donations will help me cover travel expenses associated attending two of the best professional development opportunities for secondary math teachers.

My time in Houston will benefit more than just my own students - I will pay it forward by sharing materials and information I learn with other teachers in my district during our professional development this coming year.

These conferences will help me grow my students even more and allow me to collaborate with other professionals who are as passionate about impacting students lives as I am.
