This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This school year my co-teacher and I plan to focus on building our incoming 6th grade students literacy skills. Our students are in an ICT setting and their reading levels vary greatly, often falling between the 1st grade- 6th grade. These materials will be used to split our 3 classes of 30 students into small groups and focus on their individual needs when it comes to decoding, phonics, and fluency all in hopes to increase their comprehension skills and move their reading levels closer to grade level.
Our classes are mostly comprised of students with disabilities and English language learners who often lack basic literacy skills and therefore, struggle to understand the 6th grade curriculum.
Our goal this year is to bridge the gap between their current independent reading levels and their grade level by working in small groups with them. These resources will allow for differentiated small group instruction based on their independent reading levels. The headphones will allow students to work on their iPads independently on fluency/phonics programs and rotate between teacher-led stations.
