My Project
This Donors Choose request will benefit a special education classroom where students are learning to feed themselves and make choices to encourage independence. Our class level is very impacted, and most of our kids have severe texture aversions or will only eat certain foods, which are sometimes what some would consider "snacks" or unhealthy options. However, our main goal is to get calories in bellies and make sure they have their basic needs met, or they simply would not eat all day otherwise. The wipes will help with toileting and after meals to clean hands and faces.
By fulfilling this donation, our students will be able to independently make snack choices and learn to make basic meals for themselves.
Our class is unable to leave the classroom all at once like other classes are, and this provides opportunities for individuals to leave the classroom and learn to use the microwave, make hot water, and cut soft objects such as noodles- things a lot of us take for granted.
We are a Title I elementary school near the international district in Seattle. We have a very high BIPOC and immigrant population, and over 70% of families receive free or reduced lunch. Making sure the students are eating at school is something we try to accomplish every day. Thank you so much for any contribution!
