My Students

Incoming 5th grade students will be working on individual, partner and group projects throughout the school year. I want to allow students to have flexible seating to increase motivation and to allow some choice in the classroom. My experience in the past has shown that 5th graders love to get up from their desks and sit in different spots in the classroom to work on projects and assignments. I would like to add these cushions to my classroom to increase the number of cozy and fun seating options.

My Project

Not all students work best being seated in a Chair, at a desk, throughout the School day. My Goal is to create a classroom that allows for more flexible seating without having to move tables and chairs or rearranging all students' seating. Movable balance balls, floor workstations and cushions to sit on, on the floor or on a chair, will help me .

Flexible seating options and opportunities for slight movements, in a chair, on balance balls, help all students, in particular those with some special needs, by increasing concentration and focus.

The cushions include large nubs on one side and small nubs on the other so that students can select the sensory surface they prefer. Flexible seating also increases student motivation by allowing some choice in the classroom.
