Greetings to all! I am currently a second grade teacher in a great school in an urban area in Brooklyn, New York. The majority of my students are from low income homes. However, I teach some very smart and wonderful students. Every year, I assess and evaluate my year as a teacher. Although, there are many things that I feel are successful, there are always next steps that I want to make to improve my effectiveness as a teacher. Since I always have a class of students with varying needs and learning styles, I am always searching for different ways to give the students what they need. I especially make time during my lunch and sometimes preparation period to provide intervention for my students who are struggling. With all that said, I feel that I need a more improved phonics program to assist my challenged readers. Yes, sometimes these students can read, but they can't decode. Therefore, I would like to spend time to really build their decoding skills so they can become better readers. Also, I want to provide them with the necessary skills to make them successful readers, not only in the second grade, but throughout! I would like help to buy a Hooked on Phonics-Learn to read kit because I have seen great success with this program. I would like to start providing extra help as soon as possible because I know my students will show significant success and progress in their decoding/reading abilities. I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read my proposal and for your generosity. The cost of of a Hooked on Phonics-Learn to Read Kit is $250.
