Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of students that I work with are first grade to sixth grade. They come from unstable home environments and are challenged educationally or, emotionally. They are all boys and their backgrounds are all different.
These students are developmentally challenged but are eager to learn.
They all need support and encouragement along the way to be successful. Some of the boys live on the school grounds where others may travel over an hour to get to school every day.
They enjoy learning and writing offers them many opportunities.
My Project
I feel that the more experiences you provide a child, the more they will learn. The children that I work with face many challenges both in their cognitive development and, their environment. By using games, students can work on their fine motor skills, grasp, stabilization and crossing mid-line. These are all activities needed to improve writing skills. There are many children that can not write their own name. Many children are not exposed to writing until a late age based on their family dynamics. By providing them with these opportunities such as; paints, play-dough and table top games we are offering them new experiences.
