This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Learning to read is the most important goal in first grade. Practicing reading with Time Magazine, printing Accelerated Reader tests, and listening to stories with quality headphones will certainly motivate my young readers.
Our wonderful school is located in sunny, Southern California.
My first grade students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. Our school has won many prestigious awards. We are a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence. Funding extra projects is difficult because we do not receive money from a Title I program.
My Project
Studies have shown that learning high frequency words improves reading fluency and comprehension. Time Magazine for first grade not only contain our high frequency words but presents social studies and science topics in a stimulating and interesting manner.
Students love taking the magazine home which contain vivid pictures and also promotes reading with parents. The headphones I am requesting are sturdy and will be used to listen and read stories in our popular listening center. After reading an AR book, students will take comprehension quizzes on a computer. A printer is needed to record test scores and reading levels which are sent home in a report format to parents. I would also be able to use the printer to chart reading progress on each student.
The headphones, printer and magazine I am requesting are essential tools that help students learn to read.
We are starting a brand new year and I know my students will enjoy reading about topics from around the world found in Time Magazine. The printer is a must in a modern classroom. Please help my students discover the joy of reading. Thank you for your consideration!
