My Project

Help special education students improve their reading levels, while broadening their understanding of the diverse history of different people from California.

By reading Island of the Blue Dolphins, students will learn about the early indigenous people of California.

They will also learn about the real-life struggle and survival of one of California’s indigenous women and how she survived for years, alone on a small island off of the Santa Barbara coast.

This will widen their knowledge about the history of California and of our state’s diverse populations, as well as improving their reading skills.
