My Project
Independent Reading Fridays are a big deal in my classroom. The light are off, we have colored lightbulbs, a galaxy light projector, book lights, bean bag chairs, lo-fi beats, and hot chocolate. Helping my students to enjoy reading, no matter what they're reading, is one of my biggest goals as a teacher.
In my Special Education English classroom we believe that all reading is reading.
Books on our level, books that we're interested in, comic books, audiobooks, and graphic novels. I have worked on building my classroom library in my 5 years as a teacher but I am severely lacking on my students biggest interest: graphic novels.
I am planning a full library overhaul. I'm going to use the program Booksource to track the books in my library and booksource has a tool that tells you how representative your library is. The books I'm requesting are directly from Booksource's suggested graphic novel lists for middle and high school. The 50 books on my list are current, culturally diverse, high interest graphic novels that will fill my library and give my students new books to pick on Fridays and any other day.
On Fridays, the vibe in 106 is right, help us make the books right.
