This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class of first and second graders are standout learners. They have a desire to learn, explore the world around them and find their greatness. They want those around them, especially their families and friends, to see their greatness also. My class lives in an area prone to violence and poverty.
I cannot control their lives outside of the classroom, but I can control their experience during the school day.
My students like to read and we emphasize the need to read every day. They also love to write, draw and even share what they are learning and I try to incorporate different activities as often as possible. By doing this in a positive way, I hope to inspire my learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
We all remember reading magazines as children and adults. Students enjoy having these materials that they can interact with also! They like the option to write in the magazines, connect the material to real world happenings and exploring solutions to the topics.
Students love to be able to learn and take their learning with them, and share their new knowledge and resources.
With the magazine subscriptions through Time and Scholastic News, they can take the material home to keep and share with their family and friends. With the material being relevant to the real world issues seen in the News, they can have discussions and find solutions to the issues.
