This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I started this school year in a new grade level, at a new school! My classroom serves Kindergarten and first grade students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Most of these students have language delays, sensory needs, fine motor deficits, behavior concerns and/or other obstacles to face. In addition to rigorous, differentiated, quality instruction, my students need a sensory diet to help them regulate their sensory needs. My students unique sensory needs can create sensory overload which then causes meltdowns.

Incorporating a sensory diet will decrease negative behaviors & will increase learning.

My Project

I am requesting various materials that will help meet the sensory needs of my Kindergarten and First grade students with Autism.

These materials allow me to implement an individualized sensory diet to meet the sensory processing needs of my students.

The body sox will provide students with deep pressure input. This will help calm students and create spatial awareness. The bean bags will create a calming area for students to visit in the classroom. They can also be used to provide sensory input. Thera-putty will be used to develop hand strength and can provide a calming activity for students. It will also be used for students to "fidget" during quiet, academic tasks.
