My Project

The CBHS Law Enforcement Academy falls under Career and Technical Education (CTE) and provides students with a solid foundation in the understanding and application of the Constitution and the law enforcement profession. Students that complete the required three semester long courses will walk off the graduation stage with a diploma in one hand and two industry-level certifications in the other and into a rewarding entry-level career at either $43k/year as an emergency dispatcher from the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) at any of the tri-county 911 centers or $53k/year as a corrections officer with the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

To more actively engage students in law enforcement topics such as driving under the influence or driving while distracted, it is crucial to couple the verbal lessons with hands-on instruction where students can pair up and apply what was learned as opposed to just watching videos on the topic.

When I provide lessons on impaired driving indicators standard field sobriety tests, I believe students will retain more of the lesson as well as an overall appreciation of the dangers of driving while impaired when they can see the simulated effects especially as we enter prom season and summer break.

My students would very much appreciate any donation that can be made to provide our program with several goggles that simulate the dangerous effects of being impaired by moderate to extreme use of alcohol, cannabis, LSD/Ecstasy, or being drowsy or distracted especially as we enter prom season and summer break. This will make the learning experience even more enjoyable.
