Help me give my students alternative opportunities to enjoy rhythm exercises in a more kinesthetic form. I teach middle school choir and would love to enhance their music literacy by providing a more memorable rhythm exercise series.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach middle school choir, and in addition to learning how to use our voice as an instrument, we teach music literacy, focusing on tonal and rhythmic components. We do sight singing daily, and I'd like to vary their music reading experiences in extra memorable ways.
The students I serve are amazing and enjoy participating in a variety of activities.
Our community is on the Texas/Mexico border, and while there is plenty of diversity, my students are frequently introduced to world music genres through their choral music in the classroom.
We strive to improve memorable learning opportunities and allow the routine of our class to include variation. We are now including more rhythmic movement-based activities (boom whackers) that will prepare them for a more challenging repertoire in varsity choirs and in high school.
